When I started on my journey as a writer, I never imagined I’d be where I am today. I have two complete manuscripts; I have made great friends with some amazing bloggers, critique partners and fellow creative writers. I’ve watched them grow and flourish, just as I have.
Becoming a writer was a challenge for me. I had to channel my daydreaming energy into something tangible. I needed to focus and direct my energy into what I wanted most.
I’m not the first, or last to be daunted by trying something new. To move away from the comfort of their current position and pursue a passion. To push themselves to achieve more. It’s scary starting out!
I had to overcome my negative thought patterns and self-doubt.
- Where would I find the time?
- Family comes first – I’m being selfish.
- What if I’m not good enough?
- What if I fail?
Do any of them sound familiar to you?
In the end I simply started. I joined a creative writing group and wrote a little each day. Ten minutes a day grew to half an hour or more. Two years later and I’d finished the first draft of my first book. Then I dipped my toe into the sea of social media. And began blogging, and two years later I’m still here, still persevering.
Believing that my dreams, to be a traditionally published author, will come true. Even when my fears creep in, trying to drown me in doubt, I ignored them and carried on. Why? That’s simple… I love writing! And you know what, your five minutes a day could flourish into something too.
You’re allowed to start a new hobby, or learn a new craft. You’re allowed to make mistakes, you’re human after all. The beauty of failure is that’s how we learn and grow. This is your life; it’s time to live it.
So give it a try… what do you have to lose?
I believe in dreams, fantasy, reality and all things in between. Follow your passion. Do it today. Make the choice to change, and know that from this moment on, every step you take will lead you towards a brighter future. If you’re brave enough to follow your dreams, they will start to come true.
Tell me about your dreams and aspirations. Or about any dreams you’ve already acomplished. As always, thanks for reading. Much Love x

Well said! I believe that focusing on doing today’s tasks, a little at a time, is the key. It’s cumulative. Even if you could only write one page per day, that’s 365 pages at the end of the year!

Love this post, especially the quote about believing in a dream no one but you can see. It certainly feels that way sometimes. You’re a brilliant writer, Lorraine. I know you’ll get there in the end.

“I believe in dreams, fantasy, reality and all things in between.” This was such a gorgeous quote ah! Like seriously, I need to print it out and frame it. This post was so inspiring. And the best part is, happiness and joy is in the journey of reaching for your goals!❤️

Most inspiring. Especially for people who are standing on the edge hesitating.
This post should move them to take the plunge.
As for me, I have always loved writing but was hesitating over starting a blog since I am a technophobe. My daughter did the installation for me but now I am managing mostly on my own.
It was very difficult at first but the very tasks that I used to be stuck over initially have now become reflexes.
I am currently struggling with Canva to customise my .images. it’s very difficult for me but I know I will get there in the end if I have faith.

I’m trying to wrote books, I have so many ideas in my head that seem so hard to get down. You’ve already seen some of my art work… 🙂

I know what you mean, that’s where short stories really help. Set a timer and write about one of your ideas. Before you know it, you’ll have a collection of work and more importantly, you’ll know which one is calling the loudest. 😊

I find short stories so help with this and I have some written down ready to expand… I just need to do it. How hard can it be? Lol

“Where would I find the time?Family comes first – I’m being selfish. What if I’m not good enough? What if I fail?”
These weren’t so much my own fears and doubts, because for me it was more important to try. It was others, particularly my ex-husband, who voiced all those doubts and attempted to stop me from pursuing my dream. So, good on you for this post encouraging others to keep on trying. Ignore the doubters, and just enjoy the adventure!

My teenager is finding it the hardest. She can’t understand that writing is more than a hobby. I’m sure as she grows she’ll realise what I’m working towards.
I’m so pleased that you stuck with your passion, despite having others trying to hold you back.

A wonderful post! I absolutely agree with you. If you love writing you should go for it, without letting people (or yourself) tell you you can’t do it. When I told people I wanted to be a writer, most of them went “Yeah, sure.” But that didn’t stop me. Following one’s dream is the best thing a person can do for themselves. At least that’s what I think 🙂

And I 100% agree with you. Don’t let others dictate what you should do with your life. Thanks for reading Rhee. 😁

The journey that we take is a story of its own. It takes courage not only to create but to share. Not a lot of people can do this but somehow we keep pushing forward.
This is a wonderful group of people that I have met. By far one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Excellent thoughts as always, Lorraine.
